You might come across urban clearway signs in built up towns and cities. An urban clearway is ruled by certain times of operation, during the times stated you are forbidden from stopping your vehicle on the road or roadside, unless you are collecting up or dropping off passengers.
While there aren't any road markings along an urban clearway, there will be signs along the section of the road where the urban clearway applies. The end of an urban clearway is signalled by a sign reading 'End'.
Things to know about urban clearways:
- Where there is an Urban Clearway sign displayed, you may have to pay and display as it is more than likely a popular place to stop
- During times of operation, you should not stop on an urban clearway apart from for very short amounts of time
- The rules for stopping on an urban clearway do not apply to lay-bys or official parking bays
